Presentation Skills

The fear of presenting is common, and it often results in the speaker not making the most effective connection with the audience.  DCo design bespoke programmes and provide dynamic Presentation Skills training that builds your people’s confidence and skills to deliver memorable presentations.

DCo can provide Presentation Skills training in a number of formats including preparing delegates to deliver group presentations and coaching individuals on the delivery of a keynote speech.

We will deliver a Presentation Skills training programme to meet the exact requirements of your presenters. Programmes can occur in-house or at a venue convenient to you.  Some of our most impactful presentation skills training programmes take place on a theatre stage.  The use of a large scale performance space to refine and practise presenting provides a unique learning opportunity.

Unlock the Power of your Voice

We develop the ways that voice can be used to a presenter’s advantage.

Being able to control your voice and ensure that it is heard is the most essential presenting skill.  Most people spend a lot of time working out what they will say but spend significantly less time on how they will sound delivering their message.

DCo work with delegates to help them find their presenting voice.  This critical element of presentation skills ensures that speakers master how to use tone, breath, pitch, volume and pace to engage the audience.

Using voice more effectively is a significant factor in how a presentation is received.  Your voice can influence and establish credibility as much as the words you actually say.  Whatever the purpose of your presentation, mastering voice techniques will improve the level of engagement you achieve.

Whatever your presentation aim, whether this is selling, informing or inspiring an audience, it requires them to believe in the message you are giving. The power of your voice plays a key part in how an audience responds and feels about you.

Delivering Impactful Technical Presentations

Delivering technical presentations requires the same level of engagement and message clarity as less complex subject matter.  We are often asked to work with groups responsible for delivering technical content to audiences to ensure that they achieve the desired aims.

It is very easy to rely on your expertise and technical data to drive a presentation, but being an expert in a subject can often be a limiting factor when presenting.  To effectively engage an audience in a technical presentation requires the greatest skill.  It often needs the expert voice to take a step back to fully consider the needs of the broader audience.

DCo design technical presentation training that supports presenters in speaking to non-technical audiences, peers and stakeholders.  We are able to help delegates to develop and deliver technical presentations that include an element of ‘theatre’ and storytelling rather than being led by sharing information.

Technical presentations that can provide insight and inspire engagement are more impactful than those reliant on slides and jargon.  DCo will work with you to understand the format that your technical presentations take and how to increase their effectiveness.

Achieve Message Clarity

Clarity of communication is essential when making a presentation to any audience.

We include this element within our bespoke presentation skills programmes to ensure that speakers are clear about their message at each stage of their presentation, and can deliver these messages to effectively reach an audience.

Knowing how to maintain the interest and engagement of an audience takes practise.  We create a learning environment that is built on rapid skills practise and enables experimentation and failure to occur in order that real learning can take place.

Observation and feedback take a critical role in the development process of presentation skills, delegates are able to spend focused time improving their delivery of clear messages and identifying what works for their own presentation style.

DCo work with you to understand the type of presentations that your employees deliver and will develop a programme to suit your exact requirement.  This can include working on a specific presentation or more broadly developing your presentation skills.

A Presenter's Body Language

How aware are you of your body language when presenting?

Most of us have a good sense of the body language we display in our day to day interactions with others and control it appropriately but placed in front of an audience, or with the addition of nerves, many of us lose a level of awareness and can fail to regulate body language and movement.

Presenters can be limited in their impact and effectiveness with an audience if they display body language distractions.  Common areas for improvement include placement of hands and repetitive gesturing, poor posture, swaying or pacing, a lack of eye contact or warmth of expression.  All of these distractions weaken your ability to engage the audience in your message.

DCo work with individual delegates on the body language they demonstrate in a range of presenting situations.  We are able to provide the opportunity for observation, feedback and review within the moment to ensure that learning is focused and habits are changed.

Achieving Audience Engagement

Understanding your audience is just the starting point in achieving their engagement.

Being an expert in your subject or confident in your material is not enough on its own to ensure that your presentation engages an audience.  There are many factors at play in how others receive your message and it takes practise to refine the techniques to sustain the interest of an audience during extended presentations.

DCo provide delegates with practical skills to ensure that they are confident in delivering a memorable presentation.  We provide skills practise that explores how to interact with an audience, use visual aids sparingly, structure effectively, know how to respond to questions and priorities of audience members.  All of these elements build a responsive presentation that maintains interest and builds engagement.

Business Storytelling Techniques

Who doesn’t enjoy hearing a good story?

Presenters often forget that they are storytellers.

Crafting business stories into presentations is a powerful tool.  It takes practise to tell a story, but speakers who build a strong picture, draw on an audience’s emotions or empathy achieve the highest level of engagement.

Once an audience are listening to a story, they are engaged on a different level with the words you are speaking.  This connection is based on interest and trust and is more likely to achieve the results that you want.

DCo work on how your speakers can incorporate authentic business storytelling into presentations that will both resonate with your audience and enhance the view that you want to give of your business.

Business storytelling is useful for a range of business presentations including those with the aim to introduce your company, your brand and achieve sales.

Being able to tell impactful stories ensures that your message is memorable and different.  Points of difference, well delivered, are the foundation of an engaging presentation and DCo work with delegates to explore the stories that they can use to draw their audience closer to their message.
