Residential programmes offer a range of benefits on top of the positives that come from investing in training your employees in their usual environment.
These are:
1. More immersive learning environment
Using a non-residential venue can sometimes mean that participants are not as focused as if you booked a residential course that took them away from their day-to-day routine and any after-work commitments, removing outside distractions. Participants can give their full attention to the subject at hand. As each aspect of their residential stays will be focused towards the programme, without distractions, participants can totally immerse themselves in the learning. Participants can also continue discussing course information and their experiences with the development programme with peers in a relaxed environment.
- Teambuilding and networking
Residential programmes allow participants to use their time together to network, build working relationships, and break down any barriers to communication – both in and out of their usual teams or social circles. We are all guilty of communicating mainly within our own teams within our jobs; allowing residential programme participants to network with others in the company will draw links to different areas of the business and help participants understand how they can personally help others in different teams or departments. On top of this, ensuring that your employees have time to unwind after a busy day of learning is vital.
- Additional trainer support
An advantage of having leisure time post-programme with the consultants present is that it provides an informal environment for programme attendees to discuss the training so far, socialise and network with the trainers, for consultants to answer any additional questions participants may have or to give advice, which could help participants with other elements of the development programme, as well as within their roles on their return to work.
The Development Company’s residential training venue, Newgale Lodge, provides the ideal space for delegates to stay and learn. Our peaceful 1.7 acre site boasts a games room, bar, fire pit, wood-fired pizza oven and communal lounge, as well as our on-site high ropes course. Newgale Lodge offers great value, excellent food and stimulating spaces to eat and learn – including our new restaurant addition and our training room which features magnetic and writable walls. The wider surrounding natural environment of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park can be used to extend the challenge for delegates, with coasteering being a popular option for our residential programmes, requiring participants to refine their personal resilience, develop leadership skills, solve problems, communicate clearly and promote team cohesion.
