The VC Gallery
Combating Loneliness & Social Isolation for Veterans & Community
DCo and The VC Gallery: Partners in Community Empowerment
DCo and The VC Gallery have been side by side since the charity beginnings in Dark Street, Haverfordwest, under the old DCo HQ. Since its inception on Dark Street in Haverfordwest, The VC Gallery has been closely intertwined with DCo, operating under the former DCo HQ. The VC Gallery’s mission is to support veterans and the wider community through creative engagement, offering a variety of art projects to inspire connection and well-being.
The VC Gallery passionately believe that art and culture have the power to improve health, enrich lives, and foster a sense of belonging. Their services are designed to meet the needs of armed forces veterans and the broader Pembrokeshire community with empathy and efficiency. They aim to support individuals by addressing their unique challenges and ensuring they receive the assistance and entitlements they deserve.

Breaking Barriers
We’re committed to challenging outdated perceptions, including the “white knight syndrome,” by empowering individuals to take control of their lives and fostering mutual respect and collaboration within the community.
Barry John MBE is the founder of The VC Gallery, a charity based in Haverfordwest and Pembroke Dock, Wales. As a former soldier with the Royal Welsh Infantry, Barry served in the British Armed Forces for 24 years. His personal experiences, including using art to process the challenges of military life and PTSD, inspired him to establish The VC Gallery in 2014.
The charity combines Barry's passion for art with his commitment to supporting veterans and community members facing mental health challenges and social isolation. The VC Gallery offers a welcoming space for creative expression, skill-building workshops, and social development activities. It also provides signposting and referral services to help individuals access additional support. Since its inception, the gallery has supported over 1,500 people and expanded to a second location in Pembroke Dock.
Barry's work has been widely recognised, including receiving the Prime Minister's Points of Light Award for his contributions to the community. This acknowledgement highlights his dedication to empowering others through art and fostering an inclusive environment.
Artist Roots

His work often features bold, chaotic compositions with vibrant neon colors juxtaposed with black, creating what he describes as "Black Graffiti paintings." These visually striking pieces convey stories and themes that range from deeply personal reflections to universal experiences, often addressing issues such as mental health, social isolation, and resilience.
