3 Things that Work Experience at DCo Taught Me
In July 2019, I took part in a week of student work experience at The Development Company. I have compiled a list of the top three things that I learnt whilst I was there.
- Introducing myself to new people
Throughout the week, I went around meeting DCo team members who are office-based. I was given the opportunity to ask them questions not only about themselves but also about the company and where they could see the company being in five years. I learnt a lot about the team and the most common factor that I found whilst talking to them is that they enjoy the environment at DCo. From my experience, the team are easy-going, very approachable and are a highly supportive group – they go out of their way to help each other and also me during my week of work experience.
- Answering the phone
Whilst I was at DCo, as part of my work experience schedule, I had telephone training from Hollie. She taught me how to answer the phone appropriately and formally when working for a company. My confidence skills are not the best; therefore, it was a challenge for me to confidently pick the phone up and introduce myself properly and ask how I can be of help.
- Challenging myself
On my first day, I was introduced to a challenge where I had to learn to juggle. At the end of the week, I had to show everybody how much progress I had made. I had never juggled before in my life, nor even spared a moment to think about it, so this was particularly challenging for me. I feel that this task gave me an insight into how important it is to multi-task and challenge myself.
I learnt so many new skills and I would like to thank everybody for making the week enjoyable and an experience I will remember forever.
Thank you DCo!
